is 0w30 better than 0w20

Jun 14, 2023 · It is denoted by a combination of numbers and letters, such as 0w20 or 0w40. The numbers before the “w” (winter) indicate the Oil’s viscosity at low temperatures, while the numbers after the “w” represent its viscosity at high temperatures. Lower numbers before the “w” indicate better low-temperature flowability.
Feb 24, 2021 · Considering fuel dilution, that 0w-20 gets even thinner as the miles pile. So if it makes you feel better use the 30 weights. It's what I do. If you live somewhere where temps fall really low, like in the -F, 0w-30 would be good. Otherwise don't stress and just use 5w-30. My wife's Hyundai calls for 0w-20 but I fill 5w-30 and the car runs
Oct 9, 2021 · From what I've seen: - When someone goes from 0w20 to 5w40, many posters talk about a hit to fuel economy. - When going from 5w40 to 0w20, nearly everyone says that too many variables to notice fuel economy in real world. Just an observation, make your own assumptions. In my experience different brands of 5w40 gave different results.
Billfitz. You'll never see the EPA mileage figure. The difference between 0w20 and 0w30 is slight. BMW went from recommending 30 to 20 to get perhaps another half a mile per gallon or so towards their CAFE, and so long as the engine lasts through the warranty period that's what matters to them.
Aug 13, 2023 · Yep, you got me. There are 7 high mileage oils out of 1156 licensed d1G3 oils on GMs list; Castrol and Quaker State each offer a 0w20 and 5w30. This includes duplicates of Castrol’s 5w30 and both Quaker States for some reason, doesn’t make sense how they’d have two different 5w30 HM offerings.

Feb 24, 2023 · Then we learned the viscosity and we learned what is the 5w30 vs 5w40 all about. These two are pretty much similar oils. The only difference is that the 5w40 performs quite better in hot environments. That’s why if you want something thinner in the summer the 5w40 is the way to go. Either way, go for the 5w30.

Jan 1, 2004 · Yep. I've already got Redline MTL in the tranny (much better than Mobil 1 ATF once warm, btw) and Mobil 1 75w-90 in the diff. I usually run M1 5w-30, but last time around put in 2qt of 15w50 along with 3qt 5w-30. Noticed a 2-3 mpg drop. The car is a 1995 club sport edition with only 55k mi on the clock. I typically got 32-33 mpg with the M1 5w-30.
Oct 27, 2015 · The interesting thing about the test is that it shows the Mobil 1, 0w20 actually has a considerably higher film strength than the Mobil 1, 0w30 and nearly the same strength as the Mobil 1, 5w20. Mobil 1, 5w30 comes out slightly better, but not THAT much better.
Castrol Engine Oils – Exceeding ILSAC GF-6 Standards. As vehicle OEM’s continue their drive to improve fuel economy and engine efficiency, the demands on lubricants increase in parallel. Modern engines are designed to deliver maximum performance and fuel efficiency in a smaller footprint, requiring engine oils to evolve to meet increased

Mar 14, 2017 · Actually, I use M1 0-20 in my Ford engines because of the performance it gives. +1 Works perfectly in my Ford Focus. I believe that thinner oils have better base oils, thus slightly better than the thicker oils. If you have the option (0w20 vs 5w30).I would go with the 0w20. N.

0W-20 Oil. 5W-30 Oil. Good oxidation and thermal stability. Better thermal stability in unpredictable temperatures. Better protection against frictions in normal driving conditions. Better protection against frictions and particles in extreme conditions. Quicker start and lubrication. Slower start and lubrication.

Sep 9, 2017 · Mixing at a ratio of less than 1 qt of 0w20 to 3 qts of 0w30 likely won't make much difference at all. As far as 0w20 versus 0w30, it will be basically the same weight cold, at startup. Still best to use the oil type weight recommended by the OM. I have never ever seen an owners manual that recommendeds mixing different weights of oil.
is 0w30 better than 0w20
The difference between 0W20 and 0W30 oil and which is superior, is that the thinner 0W20 is better for newer engines while the thicker 0W30 is better for older engines that burn some oil. The primary distinction between the 2 is the viscosity (thickness) at operating temperatures, where a greater value denotes a denser oil.

Feb 28, 2023 · Your owner manual recommends 0W20 oil then 0W20 is better than 5W30. On the other hand, if your owner’s manual recommends 5W30, then 5W30 is better. But if you do not have your owner’s manual and are not sure which oil to buy, use 5W30 if the weather is hot and use 0W20 if the weather is cold.
May 8, 2016 · Which brand among the more popular 0W20 synthetics has a viscosity that should provide the best high temperature or heavy workload protection? Redline 0w20 is a safe bet for high temps, their 5w20 race oil is even better! Not open for further replies.

May 19, 2019 · Answer: If a different viscosity oil is added to the engine other than dexos1™ 0W20 oil, GM recommends that an oil change be performed as soon as practical, but no longer than the next scheduled oil change. in order to return the engine to the original dexos1™ 0W20 oil factory requirements.
Apr 22, 2023 · See also Power steering fluid price. Benefits of 0w 20 oil: 0w 20 oil can improve fuel economy by up to 2%. 0w 20 oil protects engines better than other oils, thanks to its higher viscosity. This means that it can help extend engine life. 0w 20 oil is less likely to cause oil leaks, thanks to its thinner consistency.
May 8, 2019 · So climate has nothing to do with the viscosity. Thinner oil is better due to it dissipates heat way better than thicker, lower drag, flows better, and with today's engines the oil pump is a low volume oil pump designed for 0w20 oil, oil won't flow correctly with the thicker oil. Do yourself a favor and follow what that owners manual says.
Dec 16, 2020 · Look at the chart below. A 20 weight oil has a viscosity range of 5.60-9.29 at 100 degrees Celsius. A 30 weight oil has a viscosity range of 9.30-12.49 at 100 degrees Celsius. With that said, a thinner 20 weight oil would be on the lower end of the viscosity range between 5.60-9.29. We will say 5.75 cST for example.
Can I use 5w40 instead of 0w30? Re: Help with oil! 0w30 or 5w40. 40 is thicker than 30, but it will be fine. Is 0W 40 better than 5W-30? Since both 0W-40 and 5W-30 are winter-grade oils, they’ll work effectively in cold temp regions. 0W-40 oil flow can normally go down to -40℃, whereas 5W-30 oil flow can go down to -35℃.
